‘Material’ as Gateway to Other Forms of Knowing: What the Secrets in Materials and Processes Have to Offer in the Field of Transformative Social Practice
The project “Path through stone” is part of this research and consists of ‘workshop’ processes exploring the material ‘stone’ using a number of different connective aesthetics approaches including ‘drawing to understand’ and other observational and communicative artistic forms.
It enables people to discover new ways of looking at their connection with and understanding of a material, as well as how this relates to questions concerning their lives and being in the world. It also gives a sense of what it means to work out of the realm of imagination.
It is envisaged that the insights gained from this exploration into the significance of materials (e.g. stone) and processes for transformation will contribute to the field of `social sculpture`.
